At this point, the 2024 election is anyone’s race to win. But Donald Trump just got news that could change that.

As the Trump campaign was hit with a colossal election shakeup that left their jaws on the floor.

In a major boost for her campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris raised an astounding $361 million in August, her team announced on Friday morning.

The campaign proudly called it “the largest haul of the 2024 cycle,” highlighting some of the momentum Harris has generated since taking the top spot on the Democratic ticket.

This impressive figure nearly triples the $130 million raised by former President Donald Trump during the same month, as reported by the Trump campaign on Wednesday.

Harris has enjoyed a surge in financial support over the past seven weeks, ever since she replaced President Biden as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.

The vice president’s campaign noted that she has raised over $615 million since July 21. That was the day Biden, in a dramatic move, withdrew from his re-election campaign and endorsed Harris as his successor.

Additionally, Harris’ team celebrated the historic nature of the August fundraising effort, declaring it “the best grassroots fundraising month in presidential history.”

In terms of financial readiness, the campaign highlighted a formidable $404 million cash-on-hand at the end of last month. This significantly outpaces the $295 million the Trump campaign reported in its coffers, giving Harris a clear financial edge heading into the fall.

Comparatively, Harris’ fundraising rose from the $310 million the Democratic ticket collected in July, while Trump’s numbers slightly declined from the $138.7 million he raised the previous month.

Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez praised the vice president’s ability to unite a diverse coalition, stating, “In just a short time, Vice President Harris’ candidacy has galvanized a history-making, broad, and diverse coalition – with the type of enthusiasm, energy, and grit that wins close elections.” She also emphasized that every dollar raised is crucial to securing victory in November.

On the other side, the Trump campaign expressed confidence in its own resources, stating on Wednesday that their war chest ensures they have “the resources needed to propel President Trump’s campaign to victory.”

Earlier in the year, the Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee led in fundraising over Trump and the Republican National Committee. However, Trump overtook Biden in the second quarter of 2024, with $331 million raised compared to the $264 million brought in by Biden and the DNC.

President Biden had seen a brief surge in donations after a poor showing in his late June debate against Trump, as supporters rallied around the 81-year-old.

However, questions about Biden’s physical and mental fitness for another term quickly gained traction, leading to calls for him to step aside. His fundraising momentum faded by early July.

In the world of campaign politics, fundraising is a critical measure of a candidate’s popularity and campaign strength. The money raised goes toward hiring staff, expanding grassroots efforts, running ads, and ensuring candidates can travel to key battleground states.

It’s no doubt that Kamala Harris’s fundraising haul will be of a major benefit for her and her campaign moving forward.

The question is, will she be able to capitalize and improve her positioning in the polls because of this fundraising success?

Or will her continued avoidance of the press and flip-flopping on key issues slow any momentum she had after jumping in as the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden bowed out of the race? Only time will tell.
