Vance is making enemies simply for being Donald Trump’s running mate. But he never expected this to happen.
And the Trump campaign is speechless after JD Vance was attacked by this foreign leader.
In a recent interview, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took aim at JD Vance, the GOP vice-presidential candidate, branding him as “too radical” and openly criticizing Vance’s approach to resolving the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Zelensky’s comments, made in an interview with The New Yorker, come as the Ukrainian leader prepares for high-level meetings in the U.S., including a possible one with former President Donald Trump.
Zelensky expressed strong disapproval of Vance’s proposal, which involves creating a demilitarized zone, and suggests Ukraine “give up our territories” as part of a peace settlement. Vance, a longtime critic of U.S. military aid to Ukraine, has maintained that the U.S. lacks the resources to sustain a prolonged war effort, especially with Israel currently engaged in its own conflict with Hamas.
“He is too radical,” Zelensky remarked, emphasizing that Vance’s plan effectively forces Ukraine to “make a sacrifice,” an idea the Ukrainian president finds unacceptable.
During a recent interview, Vance outlined his strategy for ending the war, suggesting that Ukraine not join NATO and proposing a neutral zone between Ukraine and Russia. This approach, however, was met with outrage from Kyiv.
Zelensky fears such a policy would pave the way for further global conflict by sending adversaries a dangerous message: “I came, I conquered, now this is mine,” he said, drawing historical parallels to World War II’s appeasement policies.
Zelensky was quick to differentiate Vance’s position from that of Trump, saying that his phone conversations with Trump were “as positive as they could be” from his perspective.
While Trump has also been vague on details, he has boasted that he could end the war within 24 hours. Zelensky, however, appears to take Vance’s stance far more seriously, warning that it could lead the U.S. toward dangerous territory if implemented.
As Zelensky embarks on another U.S. visit, his agenda includes meetings with President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, members of Congress, and, potentially, Trump himself. Zelensky plans to discuss Ukraine’s vision for victory, a plan that would see Ukraine reclaim territories annexed by Russia, including Crimea and parts of the Donbas region.
He hopes to counter China’s peace initiative, which focuses on containing the conflict rather than achieving a decisive victory for Ukraine.
A key aspect of Zelensky’s discussions with U.S. leaders will be his call for additional support, including the loosening of restrictions on long-range weapons. His confidence remains high, especially after Ukraine’s surprise incursion into Kursk, a Russian city, which has shifted some of Russia’s military focus away from eastern Ukraine.
Ultimately, Zelensky insists that “victory is about justice,” and believes that only a strong Ukraine can bring Putin to the negotiating table. Although he has not revealed the full details of his strategy, it’s clear that Zelensky is betting on continued Western support to bring about a complete victory, one that restores Ukraine’s borders to their pre-1991 status and secures a lasting peace.
Vance’s Goal Is Simple
JD Vance simply wants the United States to pull back from sending over taxpayer dollars to Ukraine.
This is a shared viewpoint by many Americans who are sick and tired of the U.S. government funding endless wars.
Americans are also tired of elected officials prioritizing the needs of foreign nations – like Ukraine – over their own.
So no, despite what President Zelensky suggests, Vance isn’t a radical for how he views the war in Ukraine. He’s proposing commonsense solutions that will help put a stop to this lengthy conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
