Donald Trump is not playing around anymore. He’s getting right down to business.
Because Donald Trump just made an earth-shattering pick for his second administration.
President-Elect Donald Trump Expected to Appoint Gov. Kristi Noem to Lead DHS
President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly set to nominate South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to lead the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a move that will place her at the forefront of the incoming administration’s immigration policies. According to multiple sources, including CNN and The Wall Street Journal, Noem is being tapped to replace Alejandro Mayorkas, the outgoing DHS Secretary under the Biden administration.
The Trump transition team has not yet issued an official statement. If confirmed, Noem will take charge of DHS, a sprawling agency responsible for critical functions such as U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Kristi Noem has not commented on the news reports of her nomination as of yet.
This high-profile appointment positions Noem as a key player in Trump’s ambitious immigration agenda, which includes several hardline measures aimed at strengthening border security and combating illegal immigration. The president-elect has pledged to build the full U.S.-Mexico border wall, revive controversial policies like the “Remain in Mexico” program, reinstate a travel ban on certain countries, and significantly increase the number of Border Patrol agents.

Additionally, Trump has vowed to launch what he called the “largest deportation program in American history” and has proposed ending birthright citizenship for children born on U.S. soil to illegal immigrant parents.
Noem’s anticipated appointment will make her a pivotal member of Trump’s immigration team, which is already taking shape with several key figures from the previous Trump administration. Former ICE Acting Director Tom Homan has been named as Trump’s “border czar,” while Stephen Miller, a former senior advisor known for his hardline immigration views, will serve as deputy chief of staff for policy. Both Homan and Miller are well-known for their aggressive stances on immigration enforcement.
Unlike Homan and Miller, Noem will require Senate confirmation to officially assume the DHS role. However, with Republicans holding a 53-seat majority in the Senate, her confirmation is expected to proceed smoothly.
Throughout her political career, Noem has positioned herself as a staunch advocate for border security and immigration reform. As a member of Congress, she supported Trump’s travel ban on refugees from countries with links to terrorism, and as governor of South Dakota, she has taken a strong stance against the Biden administration’s handling of the border crisis. Notably, Noem publicly declared that she would not accept refugees into her state while the crisis at the southern border continues to unfold. In a show of solidarity with Texas Governor Greg Abbott, she even offered to provide razor wire to assist with his border security efforts.
As DHS Secretary, Noem will likely play a central role in implementing Trump’s border security agenda, and her past actions and statements suggest she will be a fierce advocate for stricter immigration enforcement.
Kristi Noem recently shared on Twitter (also known as X) after the election that she is in full support of Donald Trump’s plan to focus on deportations of the most “dangerous” individuals who are in the United States illegally. She highlighted that every single illegal immigrant has decided to break the law of the United States, saying that the dangerous individuals will not be “let back in.”
“President Trump will deport the most dangerous illegal aliens first – the murderers, rapists, and other criminals that Harris and Biden let into the country. They do not belong here, and we will not let them back in,” Kristi Noem said in a post on Twitter.
There are some concerns surrounding her expertise on immigration, which is surely lacking for a governor of South Dakota. However, she has been an extremely successful governor and she has the right mindset that Donald Trump would want to fit the role in replacement of Joe Biden’s pick, Alejandro Mayorkas.
