Our servicemen and women should be given respect. At the very least, they shouldn’t fear for their lives from their own countrymen.
But now US military officers were brutally victimized in a targeted attack.
Targeted Arson Hits Space Force Family Home
A dedicated Space Force family suffered a devastating attack when their Washington, D.C., home was burglarized and deliberately set ablaze while they were away for Christmas.
Major Jason “Red” Mills, an active-duty officer, along with his wife—also a Space Force member—and their ten-month-old daughter, received the heartbreaking news on December 28, 2025. Tragically, their family cat perished in the flames.
Investigators classified the fire as incendiary after discovering two separate blazes started on different levels of the house—one in the kitchen and one in the basement.
A suspect was apprehended with stolen items from the property, and the case remains under active investigation.
Clear Signs of Political Targeting
The attack bore unmistakable marks of intent aimed at the family’s military service. The couple’s car was ransacked, with hateful messages scrawled across it, including “F-ck Trump,” “F-ck you space man,” and “F-ck U.S.D.S.”—likely a jab at the Department of Government Efficiency initiative.
An Air Force Research Laboratory sticker on the vehicle was defaced with a large “X.”
Mills, who commutes daily in uniform through a neighborhood where few service members reside, shared his thoughts: “I’m the only person even remotely nearby that would ever be in uniform so they may have seen something going from my house, just in uniform every day.”
He pointed to a rising “general anti-military sentiment in certain parts of D.C. nowadays,” highlighting the risks faced by those who proudly serve.
Military Community Rallies in Support
In the face of this cowardly act, the response from fellow service members and patriots has been inspiring.
A GoFundMe campaign quickly raised around $90,000, including a generous $10,000 donation from Jared Isaacman, President Trump’s NASA administrator nominee. Contributions poured in from former students Mills had taught and widespread sharing within military circles.
Mills expressed profound gratitude: “Me and the family are super, super thankful and grateful for all the support we’ve been shown so far… It’s way above and beyond anything we expected… it’s been frankly overwhelming and in the best possible way.” He also praised his chain of command for their “heartwarming” support.
The family, having served since the early 2010s, returned to sift through rubble in hazmat suits, salvaging precious mementos like their daughter’s hospital bracelet.
