Trump blindsided after Congress smacks him with new legislation

Donald Trump has a lot on his plate right now. He’s juggling a reelection campaign, legal battles, and now Congress is after him.

And Trump was blindsided after Congress smacked him with new legislation.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has teamed up with some House Republicans to introduce a new bill that’s targeted toward former President Donald Trump.

But fortunately for Trump, this piece of legislation would be much-needed positive news for him.

In fact, the bill would call on Congress to present Trump with the Congressional Gold Medal.

This announcement comes in the wake of Trump dealing with a plethora of legal issues, the most current of which being his hush money trial in New York.

According to the text of the bill, the medal would be given to the former president “in recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication to strengthening America’s diplomatic relations during his presidency.”

“President Trump’s fearless leadership reestablished America as a respected and admired global power,” Rep. Luna said to Fox News Digital.

“It is time we recognize a president who put our country first and secured global peace through bold diplomacy. Despite the liberal media’s attempts to spread fear, America and the world were undoubtedly safer under President Donald Trump.”

“One of our duties in Congress is to honor those who have contributed significantly to our nation, and that’s why I’m introducing this legislation.”

Luna’s legislation also details Trump’s successes through foreign policy as to why he deserves the Congressional Gold Medal.

Specifically, it referenced his meeting Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, and his work with the Abraham Accords.

“Donald J. Trump’s statesmanship and excellent presidential leadership has inspired fervency and love of country in millions of Americans,” Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) said to the Washington Examiner. Ogles is a GOP congressman who is backing Luna’s bill.

“Congress would be remiss not to recognize him. The Trump presidency ushered in peace worldwide as he prioritized peace through strength rather than endless foreign wars. Trump’s contributions to the American heritage and stalwart defense of the American way of life cannot be understated,” Ogles continued.

“I am proud to join my colleagues in honoring President Donald J. Trump’s incredible leadership and dedication to America.”

Other Republican representatives backed the bill as well. They include Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Randy Weber (R-TX), Bob Good (R-VA), and Mike Waltz (R-FL).

There’s a decent chance the bill will pass the U.S. House which has a Republican majority.

But there’s an even better chance that it will not pass in the Senate which is controlled by Democrats.

If the unthinkable happens and the legislation is passed through both chambers of Congress, then Donald Trump would be the first commander-in-chief to earn the medal since Ronald Reagan in 2000.
