Pakistan’s deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar echoed this sentiment on X, stating the truce would take effect immediately. Rubio, celebrating the diplomatic effort, noted on social media that both nations had also agreed to initiate talks on a range of issues at a neutral venue.

However, the ceasefire crumbled almost as soon as it began. Indian officials accused Pakistan of breaching the agreement, with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reporting “repeated violations” to local media. “We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations,” Misri stated, warning of an “appropriate response” from India.
The mood in Kashmir turned chaotic, with Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, taking to X to lament, “What the h*ll just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!” He followed with a stark observation: “This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up,” sharing a video capturing drones and explosions lighting up the night sky.
The roots of this latest conflict trace back to April 22, when a Pakistan-based militant group attacked a tourist hub in Kashmir, k*lling 25 tourists and one local Muslim while injuring 20 others. The assailants reportedly asked people what their religion was before firing at them, intensifying the already volatile atmosphere.
