It’s hard to knock JD Vance off his feet. He’s not one to take down easily.
And Vice President Vance got the last laugh after a rabid mob hurled these attacks at him.
Tensions Flare at Union Station as Vance and Miller Clash with Protesters
A visit to Union Station by Vice President JD Vance, White House adviser Stephen Miller, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth took a turn on Wednesday when they faced off against a vocal group of demonstrators. The trio was gifting National Guard members, deployed as part of President Trump’s aggressive crime-fighting initiative, a meal of Shake Shack burgers. But the mood shifted as protesters in the bustling concourse unleashed a barrage of verbal attacks on the officials.
Miller and Vance Fire Back
Miller didn’t hold back in his response, dismissing the demonstrators as “elderly white hippies.” He declared, “For too long, 99% of this city has been terrorized by 1% of this city. We’re going to ignore these stupid white hippies that all need to go home and take a nap because they’re all over 90 years old.”
He framed the administration’s efforts as a long-overdue push for safety, stating, this District “is not a city that has had any safety for its black citizens for generations, and President Trump is the one who is fixing that.”
Vance piled on, highlighting what he saw as a disconnect. It’s “kind of bizarre that we have a bunch of old, primarily white people who are out there protesting the policies that keep people safe when they’ve never felt danger in their entire lives,” he said.
He called it a “disgrace” that the nation’s capital, a symbol of global power, had become a place where families couldn’t walk around at night. Vance credited Trump’s leadership for tackling the issue head-on, saying, “Thank God we have the presidential leadership to change it.”
Crude Taunts Escalate the Scene
The confrontation escalated when one protester’s voice carried across the station’s grand hall, hurling a crude jab based on a false rumor about Vance’s memoir Hillbilly Elegy.
“Oh look, it’s couch f–ker!” the heckler shouted, adding, “Are you gonna f–k a couch, buddy? … Go f–k a couch, JD Vance!” The personal attack added fuel to an already charged atmosphere.
Trump’s Law Enforcement Overhaul
Since August 11, when Trump took the step of federalizing DC’s Metropolitan Police Department and deploying National Guard units to patrol the streets, protests in the capital have been relatively contained.
The move came after a string of violent incidents, including an alleged carjacking attempt on August 3 targeting a former Department of Government Efficiency employee and the m*rder of a congressional intern in a June 30 drive-by shooting.
The Trump Justice Department is now digging into claims that local crime data, which suggests violent crime is at a three-decade low, may have been manipulated. Support from other states’ National Guard units and federal agencies has further ramped up security efforts.
Protesters Strengthen Administration’s Resolve
Rather than backing down, Miller said the protesters’ antics only fueled their determination. “Me, Pete, and the vice president are all going to leave here and inspired by them, we’re going to add thousands more resources to get the criminals and the gang members out of here,” he said defiantly.
