The former president’s potential list of running mates is getting narrowed down. But this possible candidate wasn’t on anyone’s radar.

And Donald Trump’s latest VP announcement has heads spinning.

During a sit down with Fox News’ Sean Hannity at the southern border in Texas, former President Donald Trump and Gov. Greg Abbott (R) discussed the issue of illegal immigration among other things.

One of those other topics was Trump’s list of possible running mates.

The former president revealed to Hannity that he’s “absolutely” thinking about picking Abbott as his VP.

“He’s a spectacular man,” Trump said. “He’s done a great job. Yes, certainly. He would be somebody that I would very much consider.”

“So he’s on the list,” Hannity said.

“Absolutely,” Trump responded.

Trump, Abbott, and the Texas National Guard viewed the southern border near the city of Eagle Pass, Texas on Thursday.

The visit to the border occurred at the same time as President Joe Biden’s visit. Although Biden toured the border in Brownsville, Texas, which is about five and a half hours south east of Eagle Pass.

As for Gov. Abbott and his role in possibly becoming Trump’s running mate, he endorsed the former president last November which will obviously help his chances of being picked as VP.

During a recent town hall event, Trump also listed six names that are on his shortlist for vice president. However, Abbott was not mentioned in that list.

That shortlist included the names: Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, and Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD).

So far, the only person who has said no to being Trump’s VP, is DeSantis.

“It’s gotta be who is going to be a good president. You always have to think that,” Trump said when explaining his consideration process for a running mate.

Back in January though, the former president did say that he has already picked a VP but wouldn’t reveal who it was.

He also told Hannity on Thursday that there wasn’t any official timeline for when he’d announce his running mate.

Eventually we will find out who Donald Trump will pick, but that doesn’t look to be anytime soon.
