The radical Leftist governor is a popular pick to replace Biden in the 2024 election. His decision to run would send shockwaves throughout the country.
And Gavin Newsom has made his final presidential election decision that’s left Democrats’ jaws on the floor.
The Democrat Party is panicking right now.
President Joe Biden had an awful debate performance that proved just how mentally and physically unfit he is to be commander-in-chief and the Democratic nominee for president this year.
But this past Thursday, Biden held a press conference where he didn’t look great but he didn’t fall flat on his face like some were expecting. That means that Democrats are basically stuck with the 81-year-old president as he has vowed not to drop out of the race.
If he had an utter disastrous press conference then the Left’s calls for him to drop out would have grown exponentially.
Now some of these Leftists worry that they’ll never be able to use their break-in-case-of-emergency candidates to take Joe Biden’s place on the ticket.
But one of these potential candidates just made an announcement about if he’s even fully up to the role of possibly taking over for Biden as the party’s nominee.
Newsom Makes Presidential Decision
As Democratic governors’ faith in President Joe Biden’s electability wanes, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) is fervently denying rumors that he might replace the president on the ballot.
At a news conference held Wednesday at Sacramento McClellan Airport, Newsom pledged his unwavering support for Biden’s re-election campaign.
“I think I’ve had 100 media outlets asking the same question, and I think that I’ve amply answered my support for the president and the support I saw on the ground was demonstrable,” Newsom stated, smiling despite his evident irritation.
As the governor of the nation’s most populous state and a recognized rising star within the Democratic Party, Newsom dismissed speculation that he might challenge Vice President Kamala Harris for the party’s endorsement if Biden withdraws from the race.
Revisiting promises made last year, Newsom confirmed he would not compete against Harris.
“Of course,” he asserted when asked about his previous commitment.
In addition, Newsom addressed rumors about Biden stepping aside, expressing his confidence in Harris’s ability to win if necessary.
“I have no doubt about that,” he said, reaffirming his faith in Harris’s electability. “If it comes to that, but I don’t expect it’s going to come to that.”
Newsom’s steadfast support for Biden contrasts sharply with the growing skepticism among other Democratic governors.
On Thursday, Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) was overheard expressing doubts about Biden’s candidacy, while Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) suggested the president should take a cognitive test to assure voters of his capability to govern.
Both governors have been mentioned as potential replacements if Biden decides not to pursue re-election.
