FBI director’s ominous warning about this foreign threat shakes Capitol Hill to its core

Chris Wray

The world is becoming increasingly dangerous by the day. That’s caused more pressure for U.S. officials to keep this country safe.

And the FBI director’s ominous warning about this foreign threat shakes Capitol Hill to its core.

Christopher Wray, the director of the FBI gave a scary warning to Americans while speaking at the 2024 Vanderbilt Summit on Modern Conflict and Emerging Threats.

Wray explained how hackers connected to China have looked around United States infrastructure and have put themselves in a spot where they can attack at “the right moment.”

He also detailed how the FBI has been working to try and stop the hacking threat which is “upon us now.”

“The PRC [People’s Republic of China] has made it clear that it considers every sector that makes our society run as fair game in its bid to dominate on the world stage,” Wray said.

“[China’s] plan is to land low blows against civilian infrastructure to try to induce panic and break America’s will to resist.”

Wray also said that the Chinese Communist Party’s “aspirations to wealth and power” are why it’s trying to engage in these cyber attacks.

“The fact is, the PRC’s targeting of our critical infrastructure is both broad and unrelenting. It’s using that mass, those numbers, to give itself the ability to physically wreak havoc on our critical infrastructure at a time of its choosing,” the FBI director said.

He went on to discuss how Chinese-connected hackers found a way to perform a cyber attack that went after infrastructure instead of financial data.

“It took the hackers all of 15 minutes to steal data related to the control and monitoring systems, while ignoring financial and business-related information, which suggests their goals were even more sinister than stealing a leg up economically,” Wray stated.

Federal agencies, the U.S. military, and other authorities are currently involved in trying to stop these cyber attacks.

“We’ve seen the best outcomes in situations where a company made a habit of reaching out to their local FBI field office even before there was any indication of a problem because that put everyone on the same page and contributed to the company’s readiness,” Wray explained.

This hasn’t been the first warning from the FBI director, however.

Earlier in the year, he gave a warning like this one while speaking at a House Select Committee on China hearing.

Wray said that Chinese hackers were looking to attack the United States’ electrical grid, pipelines, water treatment plants, and other crucial pieces of infrastructure.

If these hackers were successful, it would be an all-out disaster.

And when potential attacks are on the horizon it pays off to have a presidential administration that’s ready to stand strong against any possible threats.

Unfortunately, that’s not what we have with President Joe Biden.

Our nation’s adversaries view us as weak under his leadership. And that will only get worse the longer he’s in office.
