The Left views the Supreme Court as an enemy. That is until they can pack the court full of liberal justices.
And Senate Democrats just launched an all-out assault on the Supreme Court.
Ever since the reversal of Roe v. Wade in June of 2022, the radical Left has been hell-bent on trying to either abolish the Supreme Court or pack it with Leftist justices.
They don’t want a Supreme Court that isn’t constantly affirming their radical laws through it’s court decisions.
Now the Left is trying to introduce term limits on justices.
Last Thursday, Democrats in the Senate introduced the Supreme Court Biennial Appointments and Term Limits Act, which was led by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI).
Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Alex Padilla (D-CA) also sponsored the legislation.
The bill would create 18-year terms for the nine Supreme Court justices and a new justice would be appointed every two years to take over for the justice who is the most senior.
The president would be able to appoint a new justice in the first and third years of his or her presidential term because of this bill.
“An organized scheme by right-wing special interests to capture and control the Supreme Court, aided by gobs of billionaire dark money flowing through the confirmation process and judicial lobbying, has resulted in an unaccountable Court out of step with the American people,” Sen. Whitehouse said.
“Term limits and biennial appointments would make the Court more representative of the public and lower the stakes of each justice’s appointment while preserving constitutional protections for judicial independence.”
What makes this statement particularly interesting by Whitehouse, is the fact that he accuses the Right of weaponizing the Supreme Court.
He must’ve forgotten all the talk from Democrats over the last several years when they’ve discussed plans to pack the Court for their radical agenda.
Whitehouse’s legislation is likely to fail once it reaches the U.S. House and is examined by a Republican majority.
But if the bill does indeed pass, then Justice Clarence Thomas and Chief Justice John Roberts would immediately be impacted since they’ve been on the bench for over 18 years.
Justice Thomas is a conservative champion who has been a phenomenal Supreme Court justice over the years.
And because of that, Democrats have been trying their hardest to remove him from his position.
In August, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) wanted a federal investigation to be launched on Thomas’ alleged ethical violations that involve him accepting gifts from donors.
Of course, Thomas hasn’t broken any laws, but that won’t stop the Left’s attacks on him and the Supreme Court as a whole through legislation like Sen. Whitehouse’s term limit bill.
