Politicians have to be careful with what they say. Almost anything can be used against them to destroy their career.
And this Trump rival is finished after what he was caught saying on a hot mic.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) has been one of the biggest critics of Donald Trump’s over the years.
He practically ran for the Republican nomination for president just to beat Trump.
But he’s not running anymore, as he’s announced his full withdrawal from the race for president as of Wednesday night.
And that wasn’t the only thing he announced either. Before he told supporters that he was dropping out, Christie was caught on a hot mic bashing his fellow Republican competitors.
“We know we’re right, but they don’t want to hear it,” Christie said to a man by name of “Wayne.”
“They don’t want to hear it. We know we’re right, but they don’t want to hear it.”
“We couldn’t have been any clearer. We couldn’t have [been] any more direct or worked any harder,” the former governor continued.
He then went in on Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis and how his campaign over-performed compared to theirs.
“She has spent $68 million so far, just on TV. $59 million by DeSantis, and we spend $12 [million]. I mean, who’s punching above their weight, and who’s getting a return on their investment?”
“She’s gonna get smoked,” Christie said of Haley. “And you and I both know, and she’s not up to this.”
Wayne then inquired with Christie about Haley’s current position in New Hampshire, asking, “She’s still 20 points behind Trump in New Hampshire, right?”
“Yeah. Oh, yeah,” Christie said.
“And he’s gonna still gonna carry on?” Wayne asked of DeSantis.
“Oh, yes. I talked to DeSantis – called me – petrified that I would –” Christie responded before the mic was cut off.
According NBC News’ sources, DeSantis had called the former governor to let him know he appreciated his role in the race regardless of his decision to drop out or not.
It was on that call when Christie bashed Haley, “calling her a joke, saying she’s performed terribly and she’s not up to the task,” said NBC News’ source.
