Harris is the likely Democrat nominee for president. That means more and more people are doing a deep dive into her failed record.
And Vice President Harris turned white as a ghost once these skeletons in her closet were revealed.
Vice President Kamala Harris is highlighting her tenure as a prosecutor in her 2024 presidential campaign, emphasizing that she has never “shied away from taking on those who harm the American people.”
However, during her time as district attorney of San Francisco, Harris oversaw a controversial program that allowed illegal immigrants arrested for drug crimes to receive job training and have their records expunged, all while avoiding deportation due to the city’s sanctuary policies.
Harris promoted the “Back on Track” initiative, despite the program’s involvement with illegal Honduran migrant Alexander Izaguirre, who allegedly brutally assaulted a young woman, resulting in a skull fracture and long-term trauma. Harris later described this incident as “a huge kind of pimple on the face of this program.”
The DA’s office selected Izaguirre for the program after his arrests for purse snatching and selling cocaine, according to a report from the LA Times.
While participating in “Back on Track” in July 2008, Izaguirre committed another crime. He stole a purse from Amanda Kiefer, a San Francisco resident, and then attempted to run her down with an SUV, causing her severe injury.
Kiefer, who was left with a fractured skull, later told the LA Times that the attack drove her to leave California permanently. She questioned why illegal criminals were not being deported.
When the incident became public during Harris’s run for state Attorney General, she expressed regret that illegal immigrants had been included in her program. “The immigration issue, as it relates to the Izaguirre case, obviously is a huge kind of pimple on the face of this program,” Harris told the LA Times. She clarified that she did not mean to trivialize or cover up the issue.
Harris supported Izaguirre’s deportation following the assault and modified the program to require participants to provide documentation proving they could work legally. However, she allowed the remaining illegal immigrants in “Back on Track” to complete the program. “My issue was more, what are we going to do to prevent this from happening in the future?” Harris said at the time, according to the LA Times.
Harris’s record in San Francisco was also marked by her strong support of sanctuary city policies. In 2006, her spokesperson stated, “we are a sanctuary city, a city of refuge, and we always will be.”
Under sanctuary city policies, local authorities were not permitted to question an individual’s immigration status unless they committed a crime. This policy was loosely interpreted by several city departments, resulting in many violent criminals being released and put back onto the streets.
In June 2008, Edwin Ramos, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador with a criminal record, committed a triple m*rder, k*lling a father and two sons. Ramos shot Tony Bologna, 48, and his two sons Michael, 20, and Matthew, 16, at a traffic stop, allegedly mistaking them for gang members. Ramos had a history of criminal behavior, including gang-related assault and attempted robbery, but federal immigration authorities were not involved due to city policy.
Ramos was released in March 2008, months before the Bologna k*llings, after being caught in a vehicle with a discarded gun used in a double k*lling. Police did not file charges, as they could not prove Ramos knew about the gun, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Danielle Bologna, the widow and mother of the Bologna family, sued the city in 2009, arguing that the sanctuary city policies led to the m*rder of her family. A judge dismissed the lawsuit, stating that city officials were not responsible for Ramos’s actions, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Danielle Bologna urged Harris to seek the death penalty for Ramos. “The district attorney really needs to pay attention – she doesn’t have kids, she doesn’t know what this means,” she said of Harris, the Chronicle reported in 2008.
Harris, staying true to her anti-death penalty stance, did not pursue the death penalty for Ramos and instead advocated for a life sentence without parole.
Overall, incidents like this show just how flawed of a prosecutor Kamala Harris was.
Not only that, but her history with illegal immigration proves just how flawed she is on that very important issue that is plaguing millions of Americans today.
