Joe Biden is the oldest serving president in history. Many have questioned if he’s competent enough to run for a second term.
And Joe Biden made one announcement that changes everything for 2024.
The 2024 race is underway and the candidates are starting to pile in.
On the Republican side, the only major declared candidate so far is former president Donald Trump.
Sure, there are others like Nikki Haley and Larry Elder who have tossed their hats in the ring, but they haven’t the sway of a national name like Trump.
The only other possible contender is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who trails Trump but has garnered high second-place poll numbers. DeSantis has yet to announce a bid for office.
For Democrats, it should’ve been a forgone conclusion that Joe Biden would run again, as he’s the incumbent president.
His flagging mental and physical health has been a constant concern from Republicans and Democrats alike.
But Joe Biden left no room for doubt.
Despite the huge majority of Americans saying that he should not run again, eighty-year-old Democrat Joe Biden officially stated on Tuesday morning that he will seek a second term as President of the United States.
President Joe Biden has made it official, with a video posted to his social media sites, two weeks after revealing his intentions to Al Roker on the Today Show during an Easter Egg hunt at the White House.
Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours.
That’s why I’m running for reelection as President of the United States. Join us. Let’s finish the job. https://t.co/V9Mzpw8Sqy pic.twitter.com/Y4NXR6B8ly

“Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours,” Biden wrote.
“That’s why I’m running for reelection as President of the United States. Join us. Let’s finish the job.”
Biden is already the oldest president in American history at 80 years old, and he would be 86 by the end of a possible second term.
Just this week, an NBC News poll found that 70% of Americans, including 51% of Democrats, believe Biden should step down and not run for re-election, with nearly half of those polled who oppose his re-election citing the president’s age as a major concern.
President Biden warned that the upcoming election will be a “battle for the soul of America” in his campaign kickoff video, which begins with clips from January 6th and features themes such as abortion and LGBTQ rights.
Over images of former President Donald Trump, who has already confirmed his candidacy, as well as Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Biden warned that “MAGA extremists” are looking to take away Americans’ social security benefits, despite Republican Party opposition.
Mr. Biden will face a re-election struggle not only from Republicans, but also from Democratic contender Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who is already polling in the double digits after announcing his intention to run.
